B. Devaraj

B. Devaraj, a recipient of the Lalith Kala National Award in 2004 (India), explores avenues to capture the human condition of the common man. In most of his work, his characters sit still, almost disconnected from the passage of time. They are represented in front of a largely monochromatic background which at the same time puts them in exergue and illustrates their typical environment. Invariably, Devaraj paintings convey a strong sense of calm and silence which attracts the observers’ attention and lure them to absorb the essence of his characters’ condition.
B. Devaraj graduated in 1995 from the College of Fine Arts in Bangalore, India and participated in numerous exhibitions throughout India since then, and also internationally in Texas (USA) and London (UK). He now lives in Bangalore, India.
