Helen Budgen is a self-taught watercolour artist, enjoying the process of using large brushes, paint and water to produce bold, colourful, free-flowing watercolours.

Helen’s inspiration and success have come from capturing a scene or subject, not as a photographic study but to represent the feeling, the light and the atmosphere through painting.

On regular trips to visit family in Dubai, she is never short of inspiration from the stunning Dubai landscapes and to her fascination with camels and their beautiful quirky expressions, Helen’s sketchbook and paints are never far away.

“The beauty of art is that you are always looking at subjects more closely, you examine how the shadows and light fall, how a leaf curls, how a boat sits in the water, the sparkle in an animal’s eye and wherever you look there is always a subject you wish to paint.”
