"As a Tasmanian artist working in comparative isolation, I have always been fascinated by exotic locations and cultures and my recent art practice has been preoccupied with experiences during international residencies in France, India, Greece and Spain.  The Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, the Makanne residency in Udaipur in India, the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts on Skopelos Island in Greece and the Fundacion Valparaiso in Mojacar in Spain all provided very different situations and environments.

I was already obsessed with ornament and decoration following the first Paris residency in 2001 and this was further ignited by my encounters with Islamic art and architecture in Spain and India. It has been important for my work to have personal relevance and most of the pieces tell a story, which has significance both to me and to the place in which it was created.”

Katy Woodroffe is an Australian artist who lives and works in Hobart, Tasmania. She studied at the Tasmanian School of Art in both Hobart and Launceston and completed her Master of Fine Art and Design in 1999. Her work has been exhibited widely within Australia and overseas. She has had sixteen solo exhibitions in Australia and one each in Bulgaria and India. Her work has also been featured in eighteen different countries internationally.
