Lindi Badenhorst (born 1980) completed her BAFA at the University of Pretoria in 2002. After graduation, she moved to Johannesburg and started her career in the Film & Television industry in the art department. Throughout she has maintained and developed her skills as an artist through the medium of visual art.
After fifteen years in the television industry as Head of Props for Scandal, etc, South Africa, Lindi is now shifting her career to allow more time for art while she still freelances in the television industry in Dubai.
Her art draws conceptually from the medium itself and she is inspired by her emotional response to colour and textures. Her works are built with generous delicate layers of transparent colours that form intriguing landscapes.
Over the years Lindi has participated in numerous group exhibitions and is represented by Art it Is Gallery, Parkwood, and Woodstock. She has also sold work on an international base in countries such as Australia, London, and Dubai.
Artist Statement:
What starts out as a yearning for a new expression in art, soon becomes a carnival of powerful layers, brushstrokes of soft understanding and an intense love of colour. My work is an exploration of the relationship between the layers and colour on the canvas.
The work is driven by my perception of emotions, moods, and inspirational moments in my everyday life. Happiness is key. Even when the mood is dark the light is always there.
The colour-scapes are constructed in an intuitive manner. Initial subtle layers of colour lead to responses that develop by adding layer upon layer to create depth and textural
